What to Wear to an SMU Basketball Game

When Larry Brown took the job as the SMU men's basketball coach, I joked with one former NBA coach that the 73-year old Brown wanted a challenge.

"No, he just wants to remain relevant," the coach deadpanned.


Perhaps, but Brown has done a heck of a lot more than remain relevant.  He has transformed a dormant Mustang basketball program into a competitive team.  In just his second season in University Park, the Hall of Fame coach has guided SMU into the Top 25 for the first time since the 1984-85 season.  The Mustangs debuted at 23 this week after their 76-53 win over then 7th-ranked Cincinnati on Saturday, ending the Bearcats 15-game winning streak.

I grew up going to games at Moody Coliseum as well as the old Ownby Stadium.  I wore an SMU cheerleader uniform, just like my daughter does now.  My grandfather went to SMU, was a huge supporter of the school and almost cried when the Mustangs got the death penalty.

SMU basketball games are now the hottest ticket in Dallas.  If you're a sports gal headed to the Hilltop, you have to look the part.  Fashion matters on the SMU campus.  Here is some inspiration to help you figure out what to wear to SMU basketball games.
